The Purpose Of Prayer

Writer's picture: Matthew KellyMatthew Kelly

The purpose of prayer is to help you make the journey from point A to point B and to become the-best-version-of-yourself, which indeed is the purpose of life. The common mistake is to think of prayer as easy. I assure you, prayer is the most difficult thing in the world to do. In prayer we find ourselves standing on the edge of a deep, dark abyss—the world of the Divine, Infinite, and Eternal.

In prayer we come face-to-face with ourselves and face-to-face with God, and at different times both of these en- counters can be very frightening. Prayer is difficult. But those who learn to master prayer come to master themselves, and those who come to master themselves become the instruments of tremen- dous good and are able to master every other human activity.
